British Vogue described “necklaces over tops” as one of SS26’s most immediately transferable runway ideas: floral necklaces over polo shirts, glass beads across shirting and long pendants on outerwear. Jewellery no longer has to sit directly on skin; clothing becomes its background.
Begin with one necklace that contrasts with the fabric. Use dark or metallic links on a pale knit, colourful beads on a white shirt, and a sufficiently long, substantial pendant on heavier outerwear. Place the necklace on a flat part of the garment, away from buttons, zips and abrasive edges. Pearls worn over clothing usually look more relaxed with some length rather than pulled tight to the collar.
This styling increases friction, so plating, link construction and snagging matter. If a product page recommends wearing a necklace over knitwear, real styling photography should confirm the length and fastening.
