Trade-in terms

1. Introduction

The Ciela Trade-In Programme allows eligible customers to exchange qualifying Ciela jewellery for a Ciela Gift Card following a professional valuation.

Participation in the programme constitutes acceptance of these Trade-In Terms.

2. Eligibility

To qualify for trade-in, the jewellery must:

  • have been originally purchased from Ciela;
  • contain a natural or laboratory-grown centre diamond of 0.50ct or above;
  • be submitted by the original purchaser;
  • be accompanied by the original purchase receipt and diamond certificate;
  • be in good original condition, subject to professional inspection.

Ciela reserves the right to refuse any submission that does not satisfy these requirements.

3. Initial Online Assessment

Any online assessment or estimate is provided solely for guidance.

It is not a valuation or an offer.

The final trade-in value will only be determined after Ciela has physically inspected the jewellery.

4. Shipping

Customers are responsible for securely packaging the jewellery before shipment.

Where Ciela provides an insured shipping service, cover applies only in accordance with the terms of the selected courier.

Customers remain responsible for ensuring that all shipping information provided is accurate.

5. Inspection & Authentication

Upon receipt, every item will undergo:

  • authenticity verification;
  • diamond assessment;
  • condition inspection;
  • certification verification;
  • ownership verification where required.

Trade-in values are based on Ciela's professional assessment.

6. Counterfeit or Misrepresented Items

If an item is found to contain:

  • imitation diamonds;
  • synthetic materials not disclosed;
  • counterfeit components;
  • altered certifications;
  • materials inconsistent with the information provided,

Ciela may reject the trade-in immediately.

Where an item is rejected for any of the above reasons:

  • no Gift Card will be issued;
  • return shipping costs shall be borne by the customer;
  • Ciela reserves the right to refuse future trade-in requests from the customer.

7. Valuation

Trade-in values are determined by Ciela using factors including:

  • diamond characteristics;
  • current market conditions;
  • certification;
  • overall condition;
  • craftsmanship;
  • resale potential.

All valuations are final once confirmed by Ciela.

No correspondence will be entered into regarding the valuation methodology.

8. Gift Card

Approved trade-ins will be issued as a digital Ciela Gift Card.

Gift Cards:

  • are valid for 2 years;
  • are non-refundable;
  • are non-transferable;
  • cannot be exchanged for cash;
  • cannot be replaced if lost or stolen;
  • may only be redeemed on eligible Ciela products and services.

9. Ownership

By submitting jewellery, the customer confirms that:

  • they are the lawful owner;
  • the jewellery is free from finance, liens or third-party claims;
  • the jewellery has not been stolen.

Ciela reserves the right to request additional ownership documentation.

10. Refusal

Ciela reserves the right to decline any trade-in submission without providing a detailed explanation where:

  • authenticity cannot be confirmed;
  • ownership cannot be verified;
  • documentation is incomplete;
  • the item presents an unacceptable commercial or legal risk.

11. Liability

Except where required by law, Ciela shall not be liable for:

  • indirect loss;
  • consequential loss;
  • loss of profit;
  • sentimental value;
  • depreciation following inspection.

The maximum liability of Ciela shall not exceed the value of the jewellery while in Ciela's possession where liability is established.

12. Right to Amend

Ciela reserves the right to amend, suspend or withdraw the Trade-In Programme at any time without prior notice.

Any changes shall not affect Gift Cards already issued.

13. Governing Law

These Trade-In Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.

Any dispute shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.

14. Formation of Trade-In Agreement

A trade-in transaction shall only become binding once:

  • Ciela has completed its inspection;
  • the customer has accepted the final trade-in valuation; and
  • Ciela has issued the corresponding Ciela Gift Card.

Until that time, either party may withdraw from the proposed trade-in.

15. Inspection Procedures

To determine authenticity, condition and value, Ciela may carry out reasonable inspection procedures including, where appropriate:

  • cleaning;
  • ultrasonic cleaning;
  • microscopic examination;
  • diamond testing;
  • metal testing; and
  • other industry-standard assessment methods.

Reasonable inspection procedures shall not constitute damage to the jewellery.

16. Declined Valuation & Return

Where a customer declines Ciela's final trade-in valuation, the jewellery will be returned following payment of any applicable return shipping charges.

Ciela will make reasonable efforts to contact the customer before returning the item.

Where jewellery remains unclaimed for more than 90 days after notification, Ciela reserves the right to deal with the item as permitted by applicable law.

17. Packaging & Transit Risk

Customers are responsible for ensuring that jewellery is securely packaged prior to shipment.

Ciela shall not be responsible for any loss or damage arising from inadequate packaging by the customer.

Risk in the jewellery shall remain with the customer until the jewellery has been delivered to and signed for by Ciela.

18. Alterations & Repairs

Previous resizing, repairs, modifications or alterations may affect eligibility for the Trade-In Programme and may reduce the final trade-in value.

Ciela reserves the right to determine the impact of any alterations during inspection.

19. Lost or Missing Certificates

Where the original diamond certificate is unavailable, Ciela may, at its sole discretion, accept the jewellery for inspection.

The absence of the original certificate may affect the final trade-in valuation.

20. Identity & Compliance Checks

Ciela reserves the right to request additional information or identification where reasonably required for:

  • ownership verification;
  • fraud prevention;
  • anti-money laundering compliance; or
  • compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

Failure to provide requested information may result in the trade-in being declined.

21. Fraud Prevention

Where Ciela reasonably suspects fraud, theft, forgery or any other unlawful activity, Ciela reserves the right to:

  • reject the trade-in;
  • retain relevant documentation where required by law;
  • suspend the transaction; and
  • report the matter to the appropriate authorities.

22. Gift Card Restrictions

Ciela Gift Cards:

  • cannot be redeemed for cash;
  • cannot be used to purchase another Gift Card;
  • cannot be applied retrospectively to previous purchases;
  • may not be resold without Ciela's prior written consent; and
  • remain subject to the separate Ciela Gift Card Terms & Conditions.

23. Force Majeure

Ciela shall not be liable for any delay or failure to perform its obligations under these Trade-In Terms where such delay or failure results from events beyond its reasonable control, including but not limited to:

  • natural disasters;
  • fire;
  • flood;
  • industrial action;
  • courier disruption;
  • government action;
  • war; or
  • other circumstances beyond Ciela's reasonable control.

24. Severability

If any provision of these Trade-In Terms is found to be unlawful, invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall remain valid and enforceable to the fullest extent permitted by law.
